Ayatollah Raisi in a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa:

Iran, South Africa have a responsibility to defend the rights of independent states in int’l forums

The President said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always had good relations with South Africa after the abolishment of the apartheid system, adding, “With regard to the potentials in the two countries, bilateral relations have a lot of capacity to develop in different fields”.

Speaking in a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa Ms Thandi Modise on Thursday evening, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi said, “Iranians know African nations as the people know have been oppressed by the oppressors throughout history”.

Dr Raisi emphasised, “The Iranian people and, of course, the world public opinion, strongly hate discrimination against people of colour, especially the mistreatment of black people in the United States”.

Referring to the national capabilities and regional and international status of Iran and South Africa, the President stated, “The two countries have a responsibility to defend the rights of independent countries in international forums”.

In this meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa Ms Thandi Modise also said, “South Africa wants to fully develop relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. We have never recognised US unilateral sanctions against Iran, and we believe that at the same time with overcoming sanctions, we will improve the level of bilateral relations”.
