Distinguished Guests,

 Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening!  

I am delighted that we are celebrating tonight the freedom day of the Republic of South Africa in the Islamic Republic of Iran. This ceremony reminds us of the days when the freethinking people of South Africa brought the Apartheid Regime to its knees under the leadership of Madiba and gifted freedom and democracy to the Territory of Rainbow.

Today we are celebrating the twenty fifth anniversary of the freedom of South Africa under circumstances where the world is in further need of leaders such as Nelson Mandela—leaders who consider peace and security as their ultimate goal and are prepared to sacrifice their lives to achieve them.

Now that we are entering the twenty sixth year of democracy in South Africa thanks to the devotion of freedom fighters, I am privileged that my country has always stood behind the world’s freedom fighters including in Africa. I am also honoured that during these years, relations between our two countries have been progressing and developing.

In particular, thirteen rounds of joint economic commissions, nine rounds of political talks and exchange of senior-ranking political delegations such as the official visit by former president H.E. Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani in September 1996, two visits by Nelson Mandela to Tehran and the visit by former president H.E. Mr. Jacob Zuma to Tehran in 2016 are only a few examples of the good relations between Iran and South Africa. Moreover, visit by H.E. Dr. Zarif in 2018 as well as initiatives to hold technical and specialized committee meetings on politics, defence, science and technology and investment are significant indicators of bilateral relations in 2018.

Cooperation between Iran and South Africa in international areas such as JCPOA, human rights as well as peace in the Middle East has resulted in further commonalities between our two countries in recent years. The positive and proper trend of cooperation demonstrates our efforts to prepare the grounds for improving economic relations and trade in addition to common political approaches in 2019.

In two weeks’ time, on 08 May 2019, the sixth general election after independence is going to be held in South Africa. We hope once again we witness another glorious election in your beautiful country.

After these elections, we are going to plan the fourteenth round of joint economic commission between Iran and South Africa as well as technical committee meetings. Also, we will schedule the state visit of H.E. President Rouhani to Pretoria in 2019. In international cooperation, the participation and support of South Africa in the Security Council of the United Nations within the next two years as a non-permanent member would mark another important milestone in bolstering relations between Iran and South Africa.

The present trend of cooperation between our two countries indicates that the future of our relations is very bright and despite all unlawful pressures including the imposing of unilateral sanctions to stop independent countries and impede their progress, leaders of Iran and South Africa arc keen on developing relations.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, as an independent state, remains resolute on its principal positions on promoting multilateralism, committing to the JCPOA as a valid international document as long as Iran’s interests are covered, benefiting from nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and supporting the rights of the oppressed people of the world. The support provided by countries such as South Africa and other countries of the world for the indispensable principles of international law indicates the creation of a united dialog in the world against bullying and domineering.

And finally, once again, I congratulate the government and the people of South Africa and thank you for your attention to my speech.

عصر بخیر!

خرسندم که امروز روز آزادی جمهوری آفریقای جنوبی را در جمهوری اسلامی ایران جشن می گیریم. این مراسم یادآور روزهایی است مردم آزاد اندیش افریقای جنوبی رژیم آپارتاید را تحت رهبری مادیبا به زانو درآورد و آزادی و دموکراسی را برای قلمرو رنگین کمان به ارمغان آورد.

امروز ما جشن بیست و پنجمین سالگرد آزادی آفریقای جنوبی را در شرایطی برگزار می کنیم که جهان نیاز بیشتری به رهبرانی مانند نلسون ماندلا دارد – رهبرانی که صلح و امنیت را هدف نهایی خود می دانند و آماده فدا کردن زندگی خود برای رسیدن به آن هستند.

اکنون که به لطف از خودگذشتگی مبارزان آزادی به بیست و ششمین سال دموکراسی در آفریقای جنوبی وارد می شویم، مفتخر هستم که کشور من همیشه در کنار مبارزان آزادی در جهان از جمله در آفریقا ایستاده است. من نیز افتخار می کنم که در طول این سال ها، روابط بین دو کشور پیشرفت و توسعه داشته است.

به طور خاص، 13نشست کمیسیون های مشترک اقتصادی، 9 نشست مذاکرات سیاسی و تبادل نمایندگان سیاسی ارشد، از جمله دیدار رسمی رئیس جمهور پیشین، آقای هاشمی رفسنجانی در سپتامبر 1996، دو سفر نلسون ماندلا به تهران و دیدار ریاست جمهوری پیشین آفریقای جنوبی آقای جیکوب زوما به تهران در سال 2016 فقط چند نمونه از روابط خوب ایران و آفریقای جنوبی است. علاوه بر این، سفر دکتر ظریف در سال 2018 و همچنین طرح هایی برای برگزاری جلسات کمیته فنی و تخصصی در موضوعات سیاست، دفاع، علم و فناوری و سرمایه گذاری، شاخص های قابل توجهی از روابط دوجانبه در سال 2018 است.همکاری بین ایران و آفریقای جنوبی در زمینه های بین المللی نظیر برجام، حقوق بشر و صلح در خاورمیانه باعث ایجاد همبستگی بیشتر بین دو کشور ما در سال های اخیر شده است. روند مثبت و مناسب همکاری نشان دهنده تلاش های ما برای آماده سازی زمینه های بهبود روابط اقتصادی و تجارت علاوه بر رویکردهای سیاسی مشترک در سال 2019 است.

تا دو هفته دیگر، در تاریخ 08 مه 2019، ششمین انتخابات سراسری پس از آزادی در آفریقای جنوبی برگزار می شود. ما امیدواریم یک بار دیگر شاهد برگزاری یک انتخاب عالی در این کشور زیبا باشیم.

پس از این انتخابات، ما قصد داریم چهاردهمین کمیسیون اقتصادی مشترک بین ایران و آفریقای جنوبی و جلسات کمیته فنی را برنامه ریزی کنیم. همچنین، ما دیدار دولتی رئیس جمهور روحانی را به پرتوریا در سال 2019 برنامه ریزی می کنیم. در زمینه همکاری های بین المللی، مشارکت و حمایت از آفریقای جنوبی در شورای امنیت سازمان ملل در دو سال آینده به عنوان عضو غیر دائم نقطه عطف دیگری در راستای تقویت روابط بین ایران و آفریقای جنوبی است.

روند فعلی همکاری بین دو کشور ما نشان می دهد که آینده روابط ما بسیار روشن است و علی رغم همه فشارهای غیرقانونی از جمله اعمال تحریم های یک جانبه برای متوقف کردن کشورهای مستقل و جلوگیری از پیشرفت آنها، رهبران ایران و آفریقای جنوبی قصد توسعه روابط را دارند .

جمهوری اسلامی ایران به عنوان یک کشور مستقل در موضع گیری اصلی خود در ارتقاء چندجانبه گری، تعهد به برجام به عنوان یک سند بین المللی معتبر تا زمانی که منافع ایران تأمین شود، استفاده از انرژی هسته ای برای مقاصد صلح آمیز و حمایت از حقوق ستمدیدگان جهان استوار است. حمایت کشورهای دنیا مانند آفریقای جنوبی و سایر کشورهای جهان از اصول مسلم حقوق بین الملل نشان دهنده ایجاد گفت و گویی یکپارچه در جهان علیه قلدری و سلطه است.

در نهایت، بار دیگر، من به دولت و مردم آفریقای جنوبی تبریک می گویم و از توجه شما به سخنانم تشکر می کنم.
